1979年《读书》创刊号第1期，時任中共中宣部理論處處長李洪林寫下一篇文章《讀書無禁區》。今天，我們重新在這裡寫下這句話，並以此作為辦刊宗旨，唯有自由之思想，才有獨立之人格。
書評無任何政治背景、政治立場，也沒有任何資金支持。
書評中英文並用，或互相翻譯，或不翻譯。繁簡字亦並用，不相互轉換。
書評所有文章均有版權，著作權由作者所有，其中引用圖書書訊、封面、文字介紹、以及部分內容均由出版社授權，版權屬出版社或各著作人所有。未經允許禁止轉載。

Boston Review of Books is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Boston, USA, and an independent small media outlet primarily dedicated to introducing humanities and social sciences books and culture to the Chinese community.
Motto: No forbidden zones in reading. Read serious books, become interesting people.
In 1979, in the inaugural issue of the first volume of Dushu (Reading), Li Honglin, then the Director of the Theory Department of the CCP’s Central Propaganda Department, wrote an article titled No Forbidden Zones in Reading. Today, we rewrite this sentence here and adopt it as the purpose of our publication: Only with free thought can there be an independent personality.
